The sisters and brothers promise obedience and reverence to the Pope and the Holy Catholic Church. In this same spirit they are to obey those called to be ministers and servants of their own fraternity. And wherever they are, or in whatever situation they are in, they should diligently and fervently show reverence and honor to one another. They should also foster unity and communion with all the members of the Franciscan family.

The Service of Authority

The Superior General
Sr. Mariangela Gregolon

Aware that all authority comes from God and that all authority is service to God, we submit ourselves in a “spirit of faith and love to follow Christ”.
Superiors, in the exercise of their authority, are to bear in mind the example of Jesus, who “came into this world not to be served but to serve”.
For this reason, St. Francis desired that Superiors be servants of the brethren. Superiors are to give due consideration to the opinion of every Sister, remembering that the Lord can make known even to the least among the Sisters what might be of better service.
In keeping with the exhortation of St. Francis, no Superior is to “consider as her own” the office she has received. At a given time, each must relinquish her office willingly as she would accept relinquishing the service of “washing the feet” of the Sisters.
Because of the different situations in the Institute and the Church’s Directives which advise against a Superior’s holding an office for too long a time, provisions foresee a careful rotation of Superiors as well as all offices.

Dear brothers and sisters, the Lord, to whom you have given everything, has rewarded you with such beauty and richness, and I would like to urge you to treasure and cultivate what you have received.
Finally, let us recall the words of Saint Paul VI: “Keep,” he wrote to religious, “the simplicity of the ‘least ones’ of the Gospel. May you succeed in discovering this anew in an interior and closer relationship with Christ and in your direct contact with your brethren. You will then experience through the action of the Holy Spirit the joyful exultation of those who are introduced into the secrets of the kingdom. Do not seek to be numbered among the ‘learned and clever’... Such secrets are hidden from these. Be truly poor, meek, eager for holiness, merciful and pure of heart. Be among those who will bring to the world the peace of God” (from the homily of His Holiness Pope leo XIV - Jubilee of consecrated Life).

Chapters are a privileged occasion to live moreintensely fraternal communion and a particularly importantmoment to assess the spiritual progress of the entire Instituteand each individual Sister.
To be “one in heart and soul”, we invoke the HolySpirit, so that he might descend on the Chapters, as he cameon the day of Pentecost, when the Apostles were gatheredtogether with Mary.
